International Creativity Conference South Africa; Problem-Based Learning + Creativity Facilitation for EDUCATORS

Our lead facilitator Daberechi Okedurum was one of the global team of facilitators at the Annual International Creativity Conference for Educators which held at the Klein Kariba resort Bela Bela South Africa 8-11 October, 2017.

In his 90 minutes workshop themed; ‘Gaining Mastery in teaching Students of all ages HOW to think, not WHAT to think’, participants where practically guided using Creative Problem Solving tools on how to foster Student-Centered learning in their classrooms hence, inspiring students/learners to be Creative thinkers, Collaborators and Life-long learners. The workshop session had Educators and Creativity Practitioners from the Netherlands, Canada and South Africa.

The conference is a unique gathering of educators from around the globe to interact, learn, listen and train in creativity related directly to education. Top educationists, leaders in innovation and creative geniuses lead the event in how to integrate creativity into education to optimise the potential of all learners.

“We do not know about tomorrow, what if what tomorrow holds was not shared with me in class today, am I ready to face it?” Daberechi Okedurum

Think | Create | Take Action; Making Innovation Happen Short Course, Global Creativity Discuss, Enactus Nigeria Leadership Training & Hult Prize Semi Finalist

Last quarter of 2016 and first quarter of 2017 has been an exciting experience at IdeationHouse, we have been privileged to Facilitate Creative Thinking and Problem Solving session for staff and students at Covenant University’s Centre of Entrepreneurship Development Studies’ Making Innovation Happen Short course. Our presence in Covenant University enabled us work with four Postgraduate student-owned Social Enterprise Teams implementing business solutions for Internally Displaced Persons (Nigeria currently have 3.3 million of them); two out of these four teams made it to the semi-final round of the Hult Prize Social Enterprise Competition, representing the school in London and Dubai.

In February 2017, we engaged 120 student leaders from over 30 Nigerian higher institutions in a Creative Thinking and Problem Solving session to help them develop innovative social impact projects in their respective locations. This meeting was organized by Enactus Nigeria  an international nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. Enactus provide a platform for teams of outstanding university students to create community development projects that put people’s own ingenuity and talents at the center of improving their livelihoods.

Just like we did in South Africa October 2016 (see video of IdeationHouse’s trainer Daberechi Okedurum at Acre South Africa in a design thinking class), we have continued with joining discussion on Creativity. Daberechi Okedurum recently was a guest speaker at Pepperdine University Malibu California where he shared with the business graduate students on global Creativity, bringing to light the Nigerian Perspective to the practice of Creativity.
